NEWS - Alumni Sports Day

AlumniThis January marked the third Alumni Sports Day at the college. With the first years convincing 9-1 victory to the students and last year when the final results came right down to the last fixture of the day and was won by the Students 5-6, the Alumni were hungry for victory.

NetballThe day started well for the Alumni with the Netball Alumni first team maintaining their 100% record against the current students, beating them 37-8 and the 2s Netball Current team losing 18-15. The Alumni didn’t quite manage a clean sweep however as the Netball 3s beat their alumni 21-13.

Also after a tight game the Men’s Basketball Alumni won in the final moments 108-103, beating the current students for the first time. Women’s Basketball students beat their alumni 48-31.Leaving the overall score at 3-2 to the Alumni.

Men’s Football won their game 4-2, and the students managed to level the results. The Student Mixed Lacrosse team continued the students’ winning streak beating their Alumni 10-4. A tough game between the Men’s Rugby team and Egham Hollowegians RFC (old boys club) and the College won 31-15, taking the students in to the lead.

Women’s Hockey, the only team undefeated at Royal Holloway this season, continued their winning streak beating their Alumni 4-0 and the Men’s Alumni fought hard but eventually the
college men’s team won 5-4 meaning the students won for the third year in a row taking the Hancock Cup.

This year five other sports clubs also joined in the day by hosting reunion fixtures with their Alumni; Women’s Rugby current team triumphed over their Old Girls 27-22, the American Football Alumni smashed the current team 28-0. The Women’s Football students beat their Old Girls 5-2 and the Golf was tied 1-1. The Badminton college team were also successful in beating their Alumni opponents 4-3

The presentation of the Hancock Cup took place at Medicine in the evening with Dr. Hancock himself presenting the cup to VPSA Emma Montague on behalf of the College.  After the presentations and results teams the second biggest competition of the day began; the sports socials!
